SPATIAL LEXICON

The spectus maps function in any succession you desire, overlapped or singular. The real-space that these maps represent is countered by the translation and re-translation of place through different methods, symbols, layers, and intervals of time, resulting in the four flattened ellipses housing reminders of common space and the relative location from one to the next. When two or more maps are put together they act as a compass, the transparent layers offer solutions to new space and new time. The lack of direction associated with the maps allows for the impermanence in shifting architecture to conform to the flexibility of the map; these become generic maps and generic symbols that no longer necessarily need to represent the parking garage, the museum, the cinema, and the hotel. They may stand for whatever outstanding feature the traveler is looking to connect with. Generic and llasting maps permeate the landscape, making it unnecessary for the marketer to need more than one set for the Western World (essentially the same generic landscape follows the sale of the map – or vice versa). The maps are a reminder of the confusion and frustration people may feel as they try to assimilate real, tangible space with created elements in intangible space.

The evolution of space is slow and inevitable. one space will eventually blend into the next, borders will be irrelevant and play a role only in fictional politics - there will be little difference between here and there. the spectus is the map of the future. it will pinpoint your destiny in any location - whether it be a hotel, a parking lot, a cinema, etc. the rotational spectus along with your wearable houses (aegitecture) are the only necessary maps.

Here is a rough sketch of all of the subways and underground railways workers of the world have built. Thus, the design for the ideal underground railway inside the ideal sub/urban landscape is the rollover image.
